Rhythms with soul

Synopsis

"‘Rhythms with Soul’ is inspired by the history of Flamenco Art, taking into account the perspective of the Gypsy community and their social situation from its beginnings to the present day."
Obra

The cultural heritage of Flamenco is one of Spain's greatest treasures. This unique musical style, which originated more than 150 years ago, was based on the 'cante de lamento of the Andalusian Gypsy people, who at that time found themselves in a difficult sociopolitical situation. Born in the shadows of an illiterate culture with the purpose of expressing love and fear of life, literature has sought to define it with words such as 'duende', 'black sounds', and other intuitions of surrealism.

Rhythms with Soul presents a contemporary interpretation of those old melodies and rhythms, paying homage to this heritage. On this path, aware of both the history and the present of the phenomenon, Miguel Vargas also introduces us to a cosmopolitan flamenco, as he has always embodied the fusion of cultures, musical styles, and dances. This suite passionately explores the deepest landscapes of pain and joy in the soul.

THE SHOW

PRESS

"The opening of this show was so beautiful that a tear ran down my cheek. The curtains opened to reveal Miguel Vargas' flamenco theatrical show, in which everyone moved with daring precision. It was like the call of the flamenco warriors at dawn, the light shone and the air was filled with implored desires and the deep moan of the song."

Fringe Guru

"In fact, there are moments when Miguel Vargas' feet appear blurred, that's how fast his powerful and hypnotic steps are. The flamenco master, born in Venezuela, dominates the stage whenever he appears, with a weighty and enigmatic presence that captivates."

Fringe Revue

"Vargas is one of those charismatic dancers, whose every movement seems to be part of his bodily dialogue with rhythmic syncopations. Sometimes the conversation is pure fire and a quick reply, the feet vibrating in traditional Morse code, and other times, it's a slow, elegant, barefoot reflection on how flamenco is a language of the heart and soul. You won’t see this language expressed more eloquently than here."

The Herald

"There are many great dancers in the world, but few possess that true quality that grabs your attention and doesn't let you go. Miguel Vargas is one of them."

The Scotsman

"Rhythms with Soul radiates passion from the very beginning. When the band starts to play, a sorrowful cello sets the atmosphere. The dancers move with impressive synchronization, showcasing one dance pose after another. The vocalist's lament and the feeling of sadness are overwhelming. The pain associated with traditional flamenco takes on a contemporary expression, and the performers commit their feelings with all their hearts."

The Skinny

"Dancer and choreographer Miguel Vargas makes every effort to ensure that flamenco has a bright future. Born in Venezuela and educated in Spain, he embodies the essence of Andalusian passion, has the international perspective to guarantee the genre’s survival, and is an amazing phenomenon."
